About this piece
The cow-and-calf pairing, one of the most enduring subjects in Indian brass work, read as an image of maternal care. Compact and rounded in form rather than heavily ornamented, so it works as sculpture in rooms that are not devotional spaces.
Choosing a size
Two sizes with quite different proportions. The 9.5″ × 6.5″ × 9.5″ version at 6.5 kg is the shelf and showcase piece. The 8.5″ × 10″ × 10″ at 12.8 kg is nearly twice the weight and reads as a floor or low-table sculpture.
Where it works
Shelves, showcases and console tables for the smaller size; a side table or floor position for the larger.
Finish and care
Supplied in your choice of Natural or Antique. Natural leaves the brass bright and it will mellow with age; Antique is darkened into the recesses so the detailing reads more sharply from a distance. Clean with a soft dry cotton cloth. Do not use harsh chemicals or metal polishing liquids.
